Moments matter — when we get the right resource to a clinician at the right time, it can be career-saving, even life-extending.
Healing is an art, medicine is a science, but healthcare is a business. Balancing these elements requires innovative solutions like those provided by VITAL WorkLife to address the human side of healthcare.
The holistic offerings in totality, and the 'cafeteria style' approach of VITAL WorkLife really resonated with us... It's hard to find one solution that will match everyone's needs, but those offerings hit every single ask that we heard.
Being able to match a clinician with someone who knows and understands him or her is a fundamental, grassroots offering that not only makes sense but is incredibly powerful. I don’t know of any organization other than VITAL WorkLife that offers this.
I saved myself about two hours a day, on my clinical days, implementing the things that I talked about with my coach, which was a good win and something I'm always touting. I love sharing that there's a time investment in coaching, but the rewards are multiplied.
As a smaller independent practice, we don't have the vast resources of large health systems. VITAL WorkLife gives us access to top-tier support that makes a real difference. It's been a game-changer for us, especially with recruitment and retention.
We are really, really invested in doing more for our team members. It's a significant investment, but it's not more expensive than turnover—and it's not more expensive than a physician's well-being and the unfortunate, terrible, tragic consequences that can come from inaction.
We leaned into the return-on-investment around retention and engagement of the physicians. We calculated the expense per physician for VITAL WorkLife, then compared it to the cost of just one person leaving the organization. The number of people we can serve makes it very cost effective as a program.
Your work creates a chain reaction… healthiest >> happiest >> more efficient >> best performance >> great patient care.
CWOs are essential because they ensure that we, as an organization, will apply the same rigor to considering and intervening upon and supporting the wellbeing of our workforce that we bring to making sure we respond to safety events, hold ourselves accountable to high-quality care, and pay attention to the financial bottom line. So that is really why we have CWOs. We bring a lens that is foundational to achieving all of our goals.
I wanted to let you know that I have found my work with Dr. W. invaluable. She is wonderful – so insightful and smart. I feel like using VITAL WorkLife for coaching is an amazing little secret. I don’t know why everyone isn’t doing this!
I feel a strong personal connection to this mission. As an immigrant from Argentina who arrived in the U.S. 20 years ago, I have been closely tied to the Latino immigrant community ever since. I understand the unique psychological weight and systemic inequities these providers are navigating, both personally and professionally. I am honored to hold this space for them to process their collective grief and find mutual support. Gracias!
Burnout is at the top of our list. Retention is the new recruitment. We have to do everything we can to mitigate burnout factors, help providers find work-life balance and allow them to practice at the top of their licensure. Clinicians who are struggling are likely to also struggle with patient engagement and even decision-making. Our focus must be not only on our providers, but also the patients we serve. By helping our team members stay focused on their well-being, we help them deliver better patient care.
I used the concierge program to organize a Star Wars themed birthday party for my 5-year-old. The team arranged for Stormtrooper appearances, lightsaber duels, and a Darth Vader cake that was out-of-this-world!
I have used these [Physician Well-Being Resources] services myself and recommended them to my colleagues and department.
I would encourage anyone who needs help to reach out. Help is available and is as simple as a phone call, even when you don’t even know exactly what help you need.
An employee came in frustrated with the relationship with his boss. Once we identified the area that was making him uncomfortable, we practiced the conversation he’d like to have with his boss and with a bit of coaching, he found it was refreshing and clarifying to say what was bothering him. The next appointment he came back and reported that the conversation with his boss went well, they cleared up the role confusion and it has helped not having that burden of 'too much information' when it came to his relationships with his coworkers. The employee reported that the 'EAP is the greatest benefit ever' because he didn’t know who to talk to about this and it 'really helped me get back to enjoying my job.'
Marcia is an amazing coach who has helped to refine and tune my authentic voice so that it is connected to who I am speaking to. She has helped to get to the root of the issues to bring love to the forefront and transform what is in front of me. She has encouraged me to look toward the future to prepare for the next step in my leadership journey.
You were an excellent resource to me during a very bad time! I appreciate all you did for me! I am getting back to normal and am thankful for this resource!
The performance of the physician was substantially improved—increasing productivity and easing tension among team members. Additionally, we were able to retain a valuable employee and avoid the high costs of recruitment and loss of productivity.
I would DEFINITELY recommend this service to others and may even opt to use it again in my future as I think it's such a great learning experience to share information with others whose work histories may offer some striking parallels yet remain so different from my own(!).
VITAL WorkLife plays into both personal resilience and the culture of well-being. It's setting the stage that we are trying to normalize getting help like counseling and coaching—and getting support at home should be a normal part of your life so that you can thrive.
Physicians often won’t walk down the hallway to an EAP office. The anonymity and comprehensive nature of VITAL WorkLife’s Physician Well-Being Resources made this a perfect fit for our organization.
I recognize the importance of the work that you do for physicians like me who at times have struggled with managing stress, communication with colleagues, and finding better work-life balance. I want to thank you for helping me gain necessary tools for a successful future.
She helped me reshape my view of being a healthcare provider as my single identity and learn to not respond with immediate feelings of guilt when I can’t always meet someone’s needs.
My first impression of VITAL WorkLife was strong; they stood above their competition. My client ultimately ended up partnering with VITAL WorkLife after a rigorous vetting process. They are extremely pleased. The account management team worked tirelessly and showed the utmost professionalism through the process. The physician lead was so impressed with how they jumped in, ahead of contract start date to immediately bring care to providers. VITAL WorkLife has accomplished what so many other EAP vendors strive for. High touch, high perceived value, and a highly utilized Employee Assistance Program. We are all very excited about the value that this is bringing to our mutual client and look forward to continued partnership. I highly recommend VITAL WorkLife. I have been in the business for 18 years and they are best in class.
I continue to share with others how impressive VITAL WorkLife is as an EAP. After 20+ years in human resources and being a certified coach, I have had history with EAPs, and this is by far the best!
Rural healthcare faces a lot of struggles. Having access to a mobile mental health service is very important. We can provide our employees an option to access professional care in a location and time of their choice. Staff that have used the program say that the counselors were great to work with.
We shifted the culture a little bit towards a greater culture of compassion for self and others, and we saw an increase in referrals to our Care for the Caregiver program, which is our internal peer support program, and referrals to our wonderful partners over at VITAL WorkLife, our EAP. That was a leadership behavior that empowered local leads and shifted our culture to foster wellbeing among our healthcare workers.
When my daughter called me and asked me to get tickets to the Bears-Broncos game in Chicago, I decided to expand the request and used the concierge service from VITAL WorkLife to facilitate a whole weekend experience. I asked for four tickets, plus two rooms at a ‘good’ downtown hotel plus parking and limo ride to and from Soldier Field. My contact met and exceeded my expectations with all requests, shopping for locations and deals along the way. It made the process incredibly easy and made for a great weekend that my daughter and new son-in-law thoroughly enjoyed as did my wife and me.
The same way I want my patients to take my advice so they can feel better and improve their lives, it was important for me to put into action the things I learned from my coaching sessions. My coach gave me small assignments to complete after each session. They were not difficult tasks, but they forced me to stay engaged in my journey and focused on my priorities.
I wanted to reach out about our physician. He has done so well with his coach through your program and has demonstrated a huge turnaround in his interactions with others.
VITAL WorkLife EAP has been an invaluable partner in addressing the unique needs of our healthcare workforce. Their quick response to emergent situations, collaboration on monthly webinars, and compassionate approach have made a significant impact. They are attentive to feedback and continuously improve their services, and often offering opportunities to pilot new features, further enhancing the support available to our workforce. I would highly recommend VITAL WorkLife to healthcare organizations seeking tailored, responsive support.
I was having a birthday party for my 1-year-old on Saturday and the weather wasn’t looking good and we needed to find a tent and tables last minute. I decided to call VITAL WorkLife for assistance and was able to secure the tent and find a company that would deliver before noon. I was ecstatic with the service and experience. I couldn’t wait to share with you!
The fact that VITAL WorkLife provided not only counseling but also coaching was critical. Also, with their 24/7 support line, our physicians and APPs could literally call and talk to a professional for in-the-moment support.
I feel well-prepared for this [Well-Being Advocate] role and the coaches were approachable, down to earth, and knowledgeable. It has been a good [onboarding] experience.
I am so impressed with the extent of services from VITAL WorkLife, the professionalism and the attention to detail. I'm looking forward to spreading this great news [as a Well-Being Advocate].
It was a wonderful overview of the vast options that VITAL WorkLife has to offer. It was led by a personable and knowledgeable instructor. I feel much better equipped [as a Well-Being Advocate] to assist my colleagues in dealing with the stressors that they encounter.
We had an employee that was on an unsustainable path with their behavior. The employee utilized the EAP to get some help for anger management and has done a complete 180. The employee is a completely different person and is on a path of many more years of successful employment with us. Thanks, VITAL WorkLife!
I’ve received so much support across so many aspects of this Chief Wellness Officer role from the team at VITAL WorkLife. From helping draft my job description to launching and refining our Well-Being Index measurements and more, they’re always here for me. It’s like having my own personal consultant, bringing solid experience and expertise to the table. I’m learning as I go. Honestly, I wouldn’t be here without them. I have nothing but high praise.
VITAL WorkLife is a much more comprehensive approach to employee and provider wellness. Often staff needs assistance with other areas of their life, not only mental health. Before recommending some of the services to my colleagues, I wanted to try them myself. I had a homeowner legal issue occur over the weekend. I called VITAL WorkLife’s legal services and, within six hours, had a name and next day consultation appointment with a local attorney. The responsiveness of VITAL WorkLife eliminated days of unnecessary stress.
Very well structured and informative [Well-Being Advocate onboarding]. Very thorough coverage of material and easy to engage.
VITAL WorkLife has provided me with resources that have helped me in my personal and professional life. I have been able to connect with a very talented executive coach who has assisted me in navigating my role as a division chief, prioritizing work, and improving my effectiveness as a leader. Another true benefit as a leader is sharing these resources when providers in our team need help. By recommending VITAL WorkLife’s services, I can connect my colleagues with a professional coach that enhances my ability to support them in their professional development.
The onboarding experience made me feel like a valued member of the team and assured that I was prepared for my role as a Well-Being Advocate. VITAL WorkLife's [training] team was top notch!
VITAL WorkLife has allowed us to have resources at our fingertips to help support our physicians and providers.
My sessions with my coach are settling into a nice rhythm and I find her so very easy to talk with and very knowledgeable in this coaching environment. I have had several thought bubbles that become clearer with every session. Everyone could benefit from this information given in this specific way, and I wish I had been given the information about this opportunity much sooner.
As someone who always helps others, I’ve always felt that I had the tools I needed to work things out on my own. This is one of the things my coach understood from the very beginning. She helped me outline and prioritize the areas I felt I was struggling with the most. While always protecting other providers’ confidentiality, she gave me real life examples of how other people struggled with the same things and then provided suggestions about what might have worked for them to solve their issues. She gave me permission to be vulnerable, to cry, to talk through many of my feelings and frustrations, and to not be the problem-solver for that hour we were meeting together.
Thank you, it was so nice to get immediate assistance and speak to a live person instead of a machine.
Supporting our faculty and our physicians is critical when times are tough because they're the ones who carry the missions on their shoulders.
Being a clinician [Well-Being] advocate is an honor and has afforded me the opportunity to learn even more about the truly valuable resources VITAL WorkLife has to offer!
VITAL WorkLife has been a positive addition to the services we provide our coworkers, ensuring they have the support needed in all life situations.
For the team that I work with, VITAL WorkLife is seen as a valuable piece of the puzzle. I have VITAL WorkLife cards in my pocket and in my purse. I'm constantly handing them out. I think people probably get tired of me handing it out, but I want to make sure that they know that we have options for support.
With VITAL WorkLife, we know we'll be well supported and that our practitioners will have reliable, consistent resources available when needed. They are a trusted best-practice advisor.
The best customers of VITAL WorkLife understand that these services aren't a silver bullet. They must be aligned with cultural transformation and strategically embraced from the top down to create and nurture a workplace that fosters health and well-being among its clinicians.
VITAL WorkLife has been truly integral in helping us achieve success. We push them and they push us. It's been a mutually rewarding relationship.
Delivering exceptional care begins with nurturing the passion and purpose that brought our physicians into medicine. By investing in our providers' personal and professional growth, we empower them to lead meaningful improvements across our network. Supporting those who deliver care is our commitment to providing patients with a seamless, compassionate experience.
We realized VITAL WorkLife would be a good tool to meet the needs of our providers who are struggling with burnout or imposter syndrome... There was still a strong stigma around mental health and getting a counselor.
Before engaging VITAL WorkLife for its Provider Well-Being Resources program, I had a limited number of resources available to meet the unique needs of our physicians. Now, we're well equipped. It's great to have an expert resource on board for this.
Our providers very much appreciate being able to talk with colleagues, including those in other academic environments, who truly understand the unique complexities and stresses they face.
Healthcare workers are known to be incredibly resilient, incredibly dedicated, and able to maintain their own calm and compassion through a range of really stressful situations. But they also need support and care when things get difficult, when a case hits close to home, or an unexpected outcome happens.
